Until a couple of years ago, I was a listener of WLIR, home to some of the best music in NYC with modern rock, alternative, grunge, indie, on and on. Stuff you don’t hear on top 40. When they moved to a different part of the island (Suffolk) and changed their frequency, I stopped listening to radio, depending upon, instead, on the Web, UK press, etc. on finding new music.
In truth, what I play on the SecretCast (and in my ears) isn’t actually inspired because that’s what every station is playing, or it’s the top single on the charts. My musical discoveries are becoming more and more organic thanks to LIR becoming inaccessible.
Then I saw this post lamenting, in part, on the loss of LIR, and having been a listener since, gosh, Blondie was a top new wave act, I couldn’t help but respond. Then I discovered, after visiting their site, that they stream. Right now they’re playing “Mr. Brightside” (meh), but the first track I did hear was the new single from my beloved Vines.
Crap. I guess I’ll be listening to the radio again, despite the fact that the streaming page is shit on Firefox (and doesn’t support Safari at all).
